Futures Day at FIA – Friday 13th July 2012

Overview

The Farnborough International Airshow is one of the largest, most diverse gatherings of the international aviation community in the world. Futures Day offers a unique opportunity for groups of young people aged 11 to 21 from UK schools, universities and youth groups to witness today’s groundbreaking innovations, many of which are being launched to the global industry for the first time.

Futures Day demonstrates how STEM subjects have a direct impact on the real world now and in the future, through the exciting – and often loud! – atmosphere of the number one global aerospace event.

Programme Activities include:
A dedicated interactive zone, careers fair, conference programme and dedicated activities from exhibitors in the Innovation Zone.

HIGHLIGHTS OF FUTURES DAY 2012 INCLUDE:

EXPLORE	the Space Zone and discover the thrilling, interactive exhibits
MEET	the school taking on NASA with their cosmic radiation detection chip
VISIT	the Autonomy Zone to see remote-controlled vehicles for Aerospace, Defence and Security
WITNESS	the RAeS/Boeing Build A Plane Challenge
INVESTIGATE	the Security Zone to discover the latest in technology keeping you safe
EXPERIENCE	the International Rocketry Challenge Finals & Award Presentation, with the UK team sponsored by Chemring Group plc
LEARN	how to build a career in these sectors
MEET THE PROFESSIONALS	Pilots & engineers, NASA & ESA astronauts, industry leaders and apprentices & graduates embarking on their careers, and become a Secondary or Advanced Leader/Reporter with the Leaders Award for STEM!

The Innovation Zone is the perfect opportunity to be exposed to 10,000 young peoples in organised school groups on Friday 13th July. With the Exhibition Halls closed to the general public over the weekend, the Innovation Zone will be open to 130,000 public visitors over the two public days on Saturday and Sunday.
