Innovation Zone at Farnborough International Airshow 2012

The Innovation Zone, sponsored by Airbus, is a new and exciting activity at the Farnborough International Airshow 2012 that will showcase existing and new technologies, connecting the supply and demand sides of innovation, bringing together the funding agencies and the very best Universities all under one roof.

Innovation is best achieved through collaborations and partnerships, be they with training providers, funding partners or university R&D collaborators.

All of these players and more will be on show in the ADS Innovation Zone - a vibrant networking hub at the Farnborough International Airshow - helping to connect innovation supply and demand to bring your big ideas to commercial reality. Universities will be showcasing their latest technological developments and high-innovation concepts; the Technology Strategy Board will be promoting a range of programmes that can help support innovative businesses; and the European Research Area will be enabling access to EU research funding. You can even book free meetings with these innovators to deepen the dialogue.

  • European Union programmes such as Clean Sky and ACARE (Advisory Council for Aviation Research and Innovation in Europe) which is planning to publish its initial report at FIA, and there will be significant related activity to accompany this.

Innovation Zone Seminar Programme

In addition to the interactive exhibits and ample networking opportunities, an Innovation Seminar will take place each day from 1000 to lunchtime. Hear first from ACARE about how European aviation research is shaping up beyond 2014; find out about opportunities to collaborate on large scale technology demonstrators through the CleanSky project; and learn about international research opportunities within the Horizon2020 programme. Futures Day


Futures Day BannerOn the 13th July 2012, the Innovation Zone will also play host to Futures Day, sponsored by Airbus and the companies below and also by GE, Selex and Thales. The planned activity for the Friday of Farnborough, will see up to 10,000 young people coming through the gates to take part in a range of activities designed to enthuse and inspire the next generation, including:

  • The International Rocketry Challenge between the UK, US and French Rocketry Champions
  • A host of conferences and workshops from our sponsors, including meeting astronauts from the European Space Agency
  • The school taking on NASA
  • A series of Trails guiding participants through the Show, with Must See attractions for the Space, Spy, Careers, Aircraft and Jubilee Trails
  • Meet The Experts – graduates and apprentices from exhibitors and sponsors who are available to answer questions from young people about their careers.
